Fodor's Expert Review Aigantighe Art Gallery
Timaru
Museum/Gallery
Pronounced "egg and tie," (Scottish Gaelic for "at home"), this is one of the largest, most intriguing public art museums in the South Island. It has special regional, New Zealand, and international exhibitions and rotates the extensive permanent collection, including works by painter Colin McCahon (a Timaru native). In the gardens of the historic mansion are sculptures carved by African, Japanese, and New Zealand artists.
