Emergencies

The emergency number for police in French Polynesia is 17, although the police system isn't exactly robust—the more remote islands can have one or two policemen in total. In Pape'ete, there's a police station, and more officers, but don't count on immediate help. If you would like to report a crime, visit the police station or your local consulate.

For a medical emergency, dial 15, or call the SOS Medecins, an emergency unit of doctors and medical personnel. You can also ring Mamo General Hospital in Pape'ete, which is the largest hospital in French Polynesia. If you find yourself in a medical emergency in a remote area, your accommodation/hosts are usually in the best position to help you.
