Fodor's Expert Review Art Gallery of Western Australia
Founded in 1895, the Art Gallery of Western Australia is home to more than 17,000 treasures and numerous free exhibitions of Indigenous and modern art, which makes it worth an afternoon's devotion. The collection of Indigenous art is impressive, while other works include Australian and international paintings, sculpture, prints, crafts, and decorative arts. Free guided tours run regularly, though times vary. Generally, they're held at 11, 1, and 2, Wednesday to Monday. Family-friendly tours and activities are held during school holidays. There are also special tours for the vision impaired—phone or email ahead for bookings. Check the website for details. Admission is free although donations are appreciated. An entry charge usually applies to special exhibitions. There are also many seasonal, ticketed events, from intimate rock and pop concerts to late night viewings with a bar .
