A restored 1890s building listed on the National Heritage Register houses this stylish boutique hotel that sits in the heart of the city, across from some excellent restaurants and fantastic shopping. The Perth landmark retains all the original design elements of the era, including a grand staircase and elevator, along with contemporary accommodations—some quite opulent—and facilities. The elegant Melbourne Restaurant ($$) serves good Australian cuisine, but nearby Bar One ($$) reaches another level with its home made but sophisticated pasta and risotto dishes. Bustling Japanese restaurant, Matsuri ($$) is another good option, while Tony Roma's American steakhouse ($$) is also close by. On the shopping front, Hugo Boss is a short stroll away, as is exclusive King Street, where more luxury labels abound.
