Fodor's Expert Review Magill Estate
Do you inhale deeply from your wine glass before drinking? Do you know your back palate from your front? Then you're ready to join the wine buffs at this pavilion-style vineyard restaurant that has the critics across the country raving. The restaurant overlooks vineyards and the distant city skyline and coast but the food is just as special as the view. The seasonal menu might include such local delights as KI marron (a delicious lobster-looking creature typically harvested near Kangaroo Island), chick weed, young shoots, peas, wood sorrel, and organic honey, or South Australian abalone with quail or perhaps even Mayura Wagyu with a sesame emulsion followed by a mouth-watering selection of desserts all made from local produce. The 10-course tasting menu is A$175 per person; opt to have accompanying wines selected for you; it costs extra but the experience is well worth it (this is a vineyard after all).
