Fodor's Expert Review Ta Lai Longhouse
Ta Lai Village, Dong Nai, Vietnam Fodor's Choice
This traditional bamboo longhouse is a great base for adventurous travelers to experience all that Cat Tien National Park has to offer, as well as local village life. The accommodation is communal, with individual sleeping areas comprising a comfortable mattress, high-quality linens, and mosquito nets (bamboo screens can be installed for extra privacy). The two communal bathroom blocks have modern showers, and tasty meals are served in a covered outdoor dining hall for 150,000d per person. The longhouse, managed in collaboration with local Ma, S’tieng, and Tay communities and the World Wildlife Fund, offers a range of activities, from kayaking, mountain biking, bird-watching, trekking (including an early morning gibbon trek), and tours to local villages, lakes, and wildlife rescue centers. Ta Lai Longhouse also organizes holiday camps for children ages 6 to 12, which involve biking, kayaking, swimming, fishing, night safaris, and treasure hunts. Check the website for details.
