Bao Dai Villa

Dinh Bao Dai, Lien Son, Dac Lak, Vietnam

This seven-room villa, a former royal residence, used to serve as a vacation residence of Bao Dai, the last emperor of Vietnam. The place is really beginning to show its age but, for the bragging rights alone, it's worth the fee to stay in Bao Dai's actual bedroom, known as the King Room. The wooden-floored room is quite basic but has with fabulous views over Lak Lake and the rice paddies beyond.

PROS

  • many photographs of Vietnamese royalty
  • coffee shop and restaurant on-site

CONS

  • villa rooms are quite basic
  • even the King Room has quite tragic "modern" decor
