Fodor's Expert Review Grand Hotel
8 Dong Khoi St., Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Although more modest than the Majestic or the Continental hotels, this pleasant old colonial establishment evokes a bygone era of Francophone Saigon in the heart of the old Rue Catinat, where it's been since 1930. Unfortunately, like the other colonial-era hotels here, the Grand is state-owned and suffers accordingly compared to some of the international chains. The rooms are light and airy, with wooden floorboards giving them some old-world charm and the higher floors have lovely views of the river.
PROS
- <PRO>as locations go, this is as central as you get</PRO>
- <PRO>river views from some rooms on upper floors</PRO>
CONS
- <CON>service, while mostly good, can be indifferent at times</CON>
