Cheap and readily available, scooters are probably the easiest hassle-free (park anywhere) way to get around and discover all sites and beaches, but think twice before renting one. Accidents are not uncommon on Phuket, Lanta, or Ao Nang, as the Thais tend to speed, some tourists drink and drive, and proper safety equipment is often shunned. If you've never driven a motorcycle before, this is not the time or place to learn. A somewhat safer option could be to hire a tuk-tuk.
