Fodor's Expert Review Malabar Muslim Jama-Ath Mosque
Kampong Glam
Religious Building/Site/Shrine
In 1848 the sultan granted this land for use as a burial ground to the Jawi Peranakan community, which was made up of the offspring of Indian Muslims and Malaysians. The mosque erected here was abandoned and later taken over by the Malabar Muslims (those with ancestors from India or Ceylon, now Sri Lanka), who rebuilt it in 1962. Note that photographs shouldn't be taken here after 1 pm.
