Fodor's Expert Review Naumi Liora
55 Keong Saik Rd., Singapore, Central Singapore, 089158, Singapore
In an effort to pay tribute to the Perankan-style townhouses used to form this Chinatown hotel, its designers left details like the original timber flooring and French-style windows intact. The 79 rooms are split into three categories: the least expensive don’t have windows, but use high ceilings to try to make them feel like urban lofts. The most expensive rooms have their own private porchs. Free Wi-Fi and 24-hour complimentary snacks like cookies and ice cream are a welcome gesture, but the lack of an in-house restaurant, no swimming pool, limited gym facilities, and the loud noises caused by the wood floors are a lot to overcome. The hip coffee joints and trendy bars lining the neighboring streets are another saving grace.
