Fodor's Expert Review Restaurant du Crabe d’Or

$$ Vang Vieng Eclectic
Named for one of Vang Vieng's caves, this is probably the best restaurant in town. It's certainly the most expensive. The chefs prepare Lao, traditional Asian, and French cuisine, with the Laotian sampling menu the top draw. Salmon carpaccio and glazed duck breast are among the French dishes. Drink options include wines from an extensive list (heavy on French and Chilean vintages), and strong Lao coffee from the Bolaven Plateau. The indoor and outdoor dining areas command majestic views of the river and towering limestone cliffs. In addition to lunch and dinner, the Crabe d'Or lays out a swell buffet breakfast.
