Asakusa View Hotel

3–17–1 Nishi-Asakusa, Tokyo, 111-8765, Japan

Asakusa is all about old-world Japan. But if you want a new world hotel that’s right next door, than you should check out the Asakusa View – a behemoth property that towers over the Edo era shrines, temples, and shopping streets of this historic neighborhood.

room

Standard rooms here could use a bit of an upgrade. They’re a little tired and a little small, and definitely encourage you to explore the city. If you upgrade to an executive room or higher, you’ll get access amazing views and to the club lounge (though there’s a fee – which is really not cool).

All rooms come with Handy devices. The device acts as a wireless hotspot that will give you free Wi-Fi and international phone calls from anywhere in the city.

bathroom

Regardless of room type, the bathrooms are generally the same. And they’re generally cramped - though you should be able to squeeze into the shower/tub combo without any problems and the Toto toilets are a nice touch. If you do upgrade to a better room you will get access to Mikimoto Skincare sets and bath products.

lobby

The cavernous lobby has hanging crystal chandeliers, marble floors, and a variety of shops and restaurants. It’s not exactly a hangout, but there are computer terminals with free internet access.

pool

An indoor lap pool is bathed in sun rays from curved overhanging skylights that also provide glorious city views.

YOU SHOULD KNOW There’s a fee of 1,620 Yen to use the pool and if you have tattoos you’re prohibited from using it at all.

dining

There are a number of solid restaurant choices at the hotel including a Chinese, French, and Japanese restaurant. Take a peek at Makie – the French restaurant – with stunning views from the 27th floor.

drinking

Inside Japanese restaurant Musashi is a sake bar with a great selection. But the best drinking spot is at the Ice House on the 28th floor. Here you’ll find an array of craft cocktails and limitless vistas.

YOU SHOULD KNOW If you want to sit by the window there’s an additional cover charge of 1,500 Yen for the privilege.

LOCATION

Getting Around

Asakusa View is just off one of the major expressways in the city and also minutes from the nearest subway station. But Asakusa is a walking neighborhood and you’ll find yourself within minutes of every major attraction in the area.

Restaurants

Known for great street food, Asakusa is home to Onigiri Asakusa Yadoroku (6-minute walk), a rice ball shop with a wide selection. For soba fiends, check out Owariya (6-minute walk) which is a favorite among locals.

Bars

Don’t pass on a chance for some of the best whiskey options in town at Samboa (7-minute walk). Sake lovers should head to Daimasu Sake Bar (9-minute walk) where they'll find the finest rice-wines in the city.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Asakusa gives tourists a great opportunity to see Tokyo life during the Edo era and the Asakusa View Hotel is minutes away from all of it. Inside the property, guests can get more modern amenities as there’s a nice pool and decent restaurants, and bars. The hotel does nickel and dime a bit (you have to pay cover charges at bars and the pool), but it’s a solid contemporary option in a sea of traditional Japanese inns that dot the neighborhood.
