Central Kyoto

The estate of a former prime minister has been turned into a kaiseki (multicourse-meal) restaurant, and the stroll garden by landscape artist Ogawa Jihei ensures wonderful views by day or night. The century-old traditional structure, between the Kamo and Takase rivers, suits the delicate tasting courses served by kimono-clad women. Sushi and shabu-shabu are among the specialties here. The sunken seating and low chairs in tatami rooms make for comfortable dining.
