Fodor's Expert Review Natraj
This all-vegetarian restaurant, popular with locals, is a terrific place for Indian tea and dessert, although it's a little rough around the edges, and one of the few places open for breakfast—if you're in the mood for stuffed paranthas (whole-wheat flatbread) or idlis (South Indian steamed rice cakes). Its slightly ornate decor is not terribly appealing, but the sweets make up for it. The house specialty is bundi ki laddu (sugary, deep-fried chickpea-flour balls), and the rasgulla (cheese balls in a sugary syrup) and ras malai (sweet cheese dumplings smothered in cream) melt in your mouth. They serve up many types of thalis with a good assortment of vegetables and breads—one of the best on M.I. Road and good value. No alcohol is served.
