This small, out-of-the way village in the woodlands of the Aravali range is famous in all of Rajasthan for its astounding-looking Jain temples. It is said that site for the temples was gifted to the Jain merchant community by a Mewar king, Rana Kumbha in the 15th century, which how the place got its name. The temples are meticulously maintained by descendants of the original community and Ranakpur is an importance pilgrimage point for all Jains.
