Fodor's Expert Review Pushkar Palace

Choti Basti, off Pushkar Bazaar (the main street), Pushkar, Rajasthan, 305022, India

In the best location in town, this charming, small palace sits above its own ghat (private stairs leading down to the lake) and has fabulous, panoramic views of Pushkar. Built by the Maharaja of Jaisalmer in the 15th century, the palace was later presented to the Maharaja of Kishangarh. Rooms and public areas are outfitted with beautiful antique furniture and mirrors from Rajputana's heyday and have enormous bathrooms. They all open out into a pretty courtyard garden. Suites are more attractive. The hotel has a relaxed, sleepy vibe. Prince's restaurant, on a terrace overlooking the lake, is considered one of the best in Pushkar. Horse, camel, and jeep safaris can be arranged here, too. Opt for a lake-view room.
