Fodor's Expert Review Neemrana Fort Palace
Neemrana village, 150 km (94 miles) north of Jaipur, off NH–8, Jaipur, Rajasthan, 301705, India Fodor's Choice
This 15th-century Rajput fort, now a heritage hotel, set in 6 acres across many level, is one of the finest retreats in India, perched on a plateau in the Aravali Hills in Alwar district with stunning views. The rooms and suites, each with a different name, which vary in size (the cheapest can be cramped), are masterpieces and the architecture is fascinating and fun to explore. The rooms are consciously television-free. The main restaurant serves Rajasthani and decent European dishes and is open to nonresident guests if they have reservations. There's a dilapidated yet charming stepwell to discover nearby (ask for directions). They offer day bookings as well for 60% less, daily except weekends. Splurge a little and opt for a suite; smaller ones are only a tad bit more. Activities such as zip-lining and hot-air ballooning can be arranged.
