Fodor's Expert Review Bassi Fort Palace

On Udaipur Chittaurgarh-Bundi-Kota NH–76, Bassi, Chittaurgarh, Rajasthan, 312022, India

This eccentric 16th-century fort 20 km (12 miles) from Chittaurgarh was converted into a heritage hotel by descendants of the Chundawat royals who once defended Mewar. The approach road to the fort goes through the unspoiled village of Bassi. You can also visit the family's former hunting lodge overlooking the more distant Bassi and Orai lakes. The hotel organizes horse riding, tented safaris near the lake, and trips into the nearby Bhil villages.
