Fodor's Expert Review Kalash Parbat Hindu Hotel

$ Colaba Quick Bite

For decades Bombayites have come to Kalash Parbat Hindu Hotel, which isn't actually a hotel, to indulge their craving for Indian-style vegetarian junk food, such as chana bhatura (giant puris, or puffed bread, served with spicy chickpea curry), samosas (stuffed vegetable turnovers), sev puri (deep-fried crackers layered with potato and chutney), ragda pattice (spicy potato cakes), pani puri (fried lentil-and-potato-stuffed puffs), and other intricate snack food. The place is a bit down-at-the-heels in looks, but the spectacular vegetarian dishes are all that matters. For those wary of trying Bombay street food, you'll find many of those same items on the menu here—just prepared more hygienically.
