Fodor's Expert Review Arsalan
The city's love affair with biryani—aromatic and spiced rice usually cooked with chicken or mutton (goat)—is legendary. Although every neighborhood has its favorite biryani destination, Arsalan has emerged as one of the most popular and successful destinations for it in recent years. The restuarants are basic, the queues are often long and serpentine, and service is brisk—you are expected to finish your meal and quickly make way for those waiting outside. The biryani in Calcutta is closer to the Awadhi variant of Lucknow and is served with chunky, golden potatoes and often a piece of hard-boiled egg. You can order it to go here, too.
