Fodor's Expert Review Sunbeam

E-13 Saunta Vaddo, Mapusa-Anjuna Rd., Assagao, Goa, 403507, India

Owned by flamboyant Indian stylist Jivi Sethi, Sunbeam is a gorgeously redecorated Portuguese family home in one of North Goa's most charming villages. Great for those who appreciate unexpected touches of design, Sunbeam has three guest bedrooms, two of which are part of the "old house," while one sits in the bright new block. Goan antiques share space with modern Indian accents. The swimming pool is a riot of color, lined with pillars and featuring a scandalously phallic fountain and a backdrop that is straight off a Bollywood set. Sethi's staff is attentive and the kitchen sends out wonderful food, from complex European fare and Thai food to homey Goan and simple breakfasts, all to be savored in the fuchsia-papered dining room. Guests should also try massages in Sunbeam's mirror-lined massage room.
