Fodor's Review

Located in the Heritage Square along Franschhoek’s bustling main street, Marigold offers classic Indian cuisine in the center of town. The menu features a range of fragrant dishes from all-time favorites like butter chicken to lesser-known (but no less delicious) dishes like tamatar machli (marinated fish cooked in a tomato gravy and Indian spices). The interior is as polished as the meals: colorful plates adorn exposed brick walls and wooden chairs are set at black lacquer tables. If it's warm out, grab a seat in the square and street-facing courtyard. Behind Marigold is seasoned chef Vanie Padayachee (formerly of Le Quartier Francais), who took a food sabbatical to India for a couple of months to immerse herself in the traditions and flavors of north Indian cuisine.
