Fodor's Expert Review Burgundy
In one of the village's original stone-and-clay fisherfolk cottages, the cozy Burgundy is one of Hermanus's oldest and best-loved restaurants. Not surprisingly, there's plenty of seafood to be had on the extensive menu, from prawns to line fish. Start with the delicate west coast mussels, steamed with Sauvignon Blanc, before you move on to succulent tiger prawns with basmati rice pilaf or the fantastically fresh line fish served with passion-fruit hollandaise, seasonal vegetables, and crushed potatoes. The menu also includes a large choice of meat dishes, ranging from chicken to ostrich, and there's a good vegetarian selection—something of a novelty in smaller towns. Then there's the delicious apple tarte tartin and malva pudding—a South African favorite.
