Safety

The lowveld area, which stretches from Malelane (east of Mbombela/Nelspruit) to Komatipoort, on the Mozambique border, and up throughout Kruger National Park, is a malarial zone, and you should take antimalarial drugs. Note: malaria prophylactics may be unsuitable for children under six. Consult your doctor about the best options when planning your trip. Prevention is the best medicine: at dawn and dusk, smother yourself with insect repellent, and wear long sleeves, long pants, socks, and covered shoes. The private camps all have mosquito (mozzie) nets, but not Kruger, so spray yourself again before you go to sleep.
