Fodor's Expert Review La Mouette
La Mouette serves extremely reasonably priced, modern French-Mediterranean cuisine in a beautiful old Sea Point home that is all sash windows, working fireplaces, and artful wallpaper. With a choice of tasting or à la carte menus, you'll be treated to creative and mostly delicious seasonal fare such as roast chicken in butternut-squash puree with potstickers and toasted cashews, or divinely tasty wild mushrooms on artichoke brioche with a truffle-and-Parmesan sauce. The restaurant is split into several different rooms, each of which seats only about 20 people, so even the busiest nights allow for a nice lingering dinner conversation. Friendly, competent service and a beautiful garden that is very popular in the summer complete the picture. Not all courses are winners (the deconstructed Waldorf salad of celery panna cotta and raisin puree with apple granita does not come together), but at these prices, the overall experience is well worth a visit.
