Fodor's Expert Review Black Sheep Restaurant
The menu at this relatively new but instantly popular Kloof Street eatery focuses on a small regular menu of comfort fare mixed with an ever-changing array of adventurous blackboard specials. Starters like rabbit, ham, and artichoke terrine with caperberry salad, or Asian black bean beef-and-noodle broth with coriander, basil, and mint are followed by mains like five-spice Hoisin pork belly or grilled ostrich with braised red cabbage. If you've got four friends and want to book ahead, try the seven-hour pot roast larded leg of lamb in sherry and onions with boiled fingerling potatoes. Despite being spread over three levels—including a mezzanine for private parties—Black Sheep is almost always fully booked, and the mood is merry and loud. You won't leave hungry.
