Fodor's Expert Review Sahara Garden Kasbah & Bivouac

17 km (10½ miles) north of Merzouga, Hassi Labied, Meknès-Tafilalet, Morocco

Situated far from the madding crowd at the northern tip of Erg Chebbi, Sahara Garden has 10 perfectly comfortable guest rooms in the main building—but the adjacent eco-oriented bivouac is a bigger draw. It includes standard tents as well as sumptuous luxury ones that are outfitted with a double bed, old-fashioned brass washstand, colorful rugs, Touareg trinkets, and an en suite toilet. The solar-powered camp grows its own salad greens, fruits, and vegetables, working on the ethos of the slow food and ecotourism movements. Rates include dinner and breakfast.
