Marrakesh Sights

Most of the medina is navigable only on foot, and you may opt to engage one of the official city guides to steer you through the maze. Qualified guides can be worth their weight in gold as they shield you from overzealous merchants and share the city’s colorful history, but some push their clients towards shopping to earn a handsome commission. Make it clear at the outset if you want to shop.

The going rate for a city guide is 300 DH for a half day, 600 DH for a full day. Many apps for unguided walking tours are available online, for example at; if you go this route, keep an eye on your phone and bag.

Most of the medina's monuments charge an entry fee of 10 DH to 50 DH and have permanent but unsalaried on-site guides; if you use one, tip him about 30 DH to 50 DH.
