Fodor's Expert Review Sofitel Winter Palace
The venerable Victorian lounge here, lined with richly upholstered divans and armchairs and hung with Oriental-style paintings of turbaned men wielding sabers, is a wonderful place to decompress with a spot of tea after a day of temple stomping. The 1886 building itself looks stunning bathed in late afternoon light. Sun filters through tall windows, and birds twitter in the garden, while you nibble away at a plateful of sandwiches, pastries, and fresh-baked scones on the terrace. Tea is served (daily 4–6) in heavy silver pots and poured into porcelain cups. Note: Dress code is smart casual.
