Fodor's Expert Review Fairmont Towers Heliopolis
Shar'a El Shaheed Sayed Zakaria, off Shar'a Uruba, Cairo, Cairo, Egypt
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
Cairo's most architecturally stunning hotel, the six-story building is designed to mimic the eye of Horus. Rooms are in a curved stone edifice, while the public spaces are in a vast glass atrium that hugs the inner curve of the main block. The interior is übercool with full-size palm trees and fountains plus several open-plan bars and restaurant areas. The rooms, too, are very contemporary, with hardwood floors, flat-screen TVs, and more than 450 square feet of space. Kids' club, playground, and kiddie pool make this a good option for families.
PROS
- only 10 minutes from the international airport, so it's excellent for onward travel and early-morning flights
- wide range of amenities
- family-friendly
CONS
- it's a 45-minute drive to Downtown
- no views
- food at some restaurants is mediocre for the price
