Motswiri Camp

Selinda Reserve, North West, Botswana

Fodor’s Expert Review

If you are looking for a more active safari wrapped up in some good, old-fashioned hospitality, then you’ll love this camp, operated by Ride and Walk Botswana. With activities focused on two and four legs and a sub five-minute drive from the airstrip to camp, Motswiri benefits from a miniscule carbon footprint. Raised guest tents with private decks are set alongside a functional dining area and cozy lounge, arranged in a V and overlooking a sunken beach where tasty meals are served by the seasonal Selinda Spillway. The camp may lack the bells and whistles of its salubrious counterparts but there is a fun vibe emanating from the experienced guides and reciprocated by the guests, many of whom return for stays of seven days or more. Pick termitomyces mushrooms (think bush truffles) to accompany dinner or ride within meters of wild dogs, elephants, and buffalos—you might even spot the elusive pangolin. A nearby fly camp, accessible by foot, boat (in season), or on horseback offers a rustic change of scenery.
