FODOR’S TRAVEL IS HONORED BY THE SOCIETY OF AMERICAN TRAVEL WRITERS

Fodor’s Travel has been recognized across three different categories in the 2014 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition - taking the silver in the Special Package/Project category for its Fodor’s “World Cup Fever” package of print guidebooks, online content and mobile apps; silver in the Travel App category for its Austin City Guide mobile app; and honorable mention in the Guidebook category for its Fodor’s Brazil 2014 guide.

The annual competition, honoring outstanding print, online, and multimedia work, travel photography, and audio and video broadcasts, is sponsored by the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation (SATW). Winners of the awards, the most prestigious in the field of travel journalism, were announced across 25 categories Sept. 16 at the 2014 SATW convention in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The 30th Lowell Thomas competition drew 1,177 entries, which were judged by members of the faculty at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

This is the second year in a row that a Fodor’s mobile app is honored as a winner, with judges commenting “like others in the Fodor’s City Guide series, this app serves as a perfect companion for a business trip or weekend getaway.”
