Use these tips to avoid getting scammed in Eastern Europe

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia ask taxi drivers what the approximate fare will be before getting in. Asking for a receipt (paragon in the Czech Republic and potvrdenka in Slovakia) might also discourage a driver from charging you an enormous fare—or it could be used when complaining about a fare to a taxi dispatcher. Carefully look over restaurant bills, be extremely wary of handing your passport to anyone who accosts you with a demand for ID, and never exchange money on the street.
