Uruguay: Eat and people-watch at Mercado del Puerto

The Port Market, housed in a train station with vaulted iron beams and colored glass that was never put into service, is where downtown workers meet for lunch; you’ll find dozens of stalls and eateries, and many consider this the best place for parilla (grilled meat) in Montevideo. While here, try the market’s traditional drink: a bottle of medio y medio (champagne and white wine). It’s a social and gastronomical experience that’s tough to top.
