A private concert in the desert? Exploring Area 51? Airbnb has already planned it; all you need to do is show up.
With my right hand I’m toasting a coconut-flavored marshmallow over a campfire; in my left hand is a can of chilled rosé. Across from me, a quintet is belting soulful folk melodies in perfect harmony and bringing the audience to tears. The sound echoes through the woods in rural upstate New York and throughout the surrounding Hudson Valley. It’s Wednesday.
When I boarded a school bus in New York City Wednesday morning with nine other journalists after a long subway ride uptown, I had no idea where I was headed. In under two hours, we arrived at the 600-acre Cedar Lakes Estate, where we would spend the day making leather journals on top of a mountain with Anabaptists, pureeing fresh strawberries to make jam, foraging for edible plants, eating beautifully-plated plant-based meals, and being witness to the aforementioned intimate concert in the woods.
And while no one will experience this exact sequence of events ever again, Airbnb has made it possible for you to pick and choose your own escapade with Airbnb Adventures, their newest endeavor and an extension of Airbnb Experiences which launched in 2016.
