Great Britain: Take a trip to the pub

Pubs aren’t exactly bars; in Britain they’re also gathering places, conversation zones, and even restaurants (some fancy ones are known as gastro pubs). They’re the center of British social life, and in some, alcohol is almost an afterthought. You can order beer, soft drinks, or tea, and then proceed to mix with the regulars as you wish. Some pubs have restricted hours for children; check with the bartender. Pubs are now no-smoking, and relaxed licensing laws mean they can stay open after the traditional 11 pm closing.
