Flying Colors: Top 14 Travel Make-Up Kits

By S.S. Fair

Of course you’re done with holiday shopping, right? If not, let the buyer beware:
travel season is turning nightmarish, and getting stuck in heavy retail holiday
traffic will take the air out of anyone’s tires. One easy fix is to scoop up some prepackaged make-up sets for the ladies on your list. Pick up a few for yourself too, why
don’t you? Toss them in your carry-on in case you want to get gussied up for
those security cameras or the rental car’s rear-view mirror. If you aren’t sure what to select as a gift, stick with peaches, corals, and rose tones, which flatter most complexions.

The Eyes Have It

Tarte, the eco-impeccable cosmetics line, has a smolderEYES limited-edition
Amazonian clay water-proof eyeliner collection ($39). That’s not only mouthful but a
handful of smooth-gliding liners for night and day. Laura Mercier’s limited-edition pencil set ($45) and mini pencil set ($32) come in earthy and nocturnal tones with a
dash of sparkle. Both are keepers for your peepers.

Make Up For Ever is known for hi-definition make-up, very dense and intense. Their Smoky Lash kit ($22) has one rich black mascara and Sens’eyes, which removes
all traces of said mascara at bedtime. Mufe’s Wild & Chic Aqua Creams ($175) are a
dozen extravagant eye shadows in a metal clutch: ultra-chic. Stila’s flower-shaped "Daydream" eye shadow palette ($18) contains 22 colors in a unique floral design—that’s a steal. (Seriously, don’t steal.) And don’t forget Sonia Kashuk’s stunning Out of the Woods make-up brush set ($12.99) in a cute cork purse at Target.

Hip Lips

Laura Mercier’s mini LipGlace sets ($48) are subtly colored and taste faintly of burnt
caramel and vanilla. Stila also has a set of eight top-selling lip glazes perfect for adding sun-kissed shimmer to your next beach getaway. For a sophisticated look, Bite Beauty has a set of five micro-mini lipsticks ($25) chock full of the
antioxidant resveratrol, the same stuff that makes wine a health drink! Colors include
Champagne and Shiraz. Bite also has a set ($38) of high pigment (non-alcoholic)
lip pencils too.

Cheek to Cheek

Chantecaille makes stunning palettes for eyes, lips and cheeks. Their "Les Macarons"
face palettes ($68) are vibrant and subtle at the same time. How do they do it?
Tarte’s Shining Star collection ($25) has it all: mascara, liner, lip pencil, and an excellent
cheek stain, to cover all the bases, while Laura Mercier’s Luxe Color Portfolio
($98) in faux snakeskin is also a real palette pleaser.
