England Hotel Chain Primer: London and Beyond

London-myhotel-Chelsea-suite.jpgEngland has a number of hotel chains: some are moderately priced, others are luxurious. Particularly in London, they can be a quick way to narrow down the many lodging options available. Here’s a list of some of our favorites.

easyhotel

One of the first chains to bring so-called "pod hotels" to London, the easyhotel chain specializes in very cheap (less than £50 a night for a double) rooms that are clean, secure and offer all the basics, but are teeny-tiny, and have no extras at all. There are 6 branches in London, including one conveniently located in Heathrow Airport, and 7 others throughout Europe and the Middle East. www.easyhotel.com

This 13-property chain includes a good mix of large and small hotels, with reliable (if somewhat dull) neutral decor, good service, and plenty of gadgets for business travelers. Prices vary in and around London, although most are moderately priced. www.grangehotels.com

Premier Inns

This widespread chain features medium-size, budget priced hotels. They’re known for their attractive if bland look, and for frequent sales, which keep prices cheap. With their Straford-upon-Avon property that opened in April, Premier now has 600 properties throughout the U.K. www.premierinn.com
