Chipotle Mexican Grill is getting up to a lot this season. First, and by far most importantly, the restaurant recently announced the addition of new premium margaritas to its menu…margaritas made with Patrón. Besides being fancy, the new margarita is a departure from the restaurant’s older approach, which used (brace yourself) a mix.
First of all, we didn’t know Chipotle had been serving margaritas to begin with. Our lunch breaks could have been a lot more interesting. But this new recipe will be made with Patrón Silver tequila, triple sec, fresh lime and lemon juice, and organic agave nectar. Ladies and gents, that is what we call an upgrade. A version made with Sauza tequila and the same ingredients will be available at a lower price point. The new drinks are set to hit 900 Chipotle restaurants on Monday across the country. So we’d like to suggest an early, long, and boozy lunch. Are you with us, America?
The second piece of great Chipotle news that hit our desks this week? Chipotle recently revealed details for its third Cultivate Festival. This year, the restaurant will be hosting free fests in San Francisco (June 8), Denver (August 17), and Chicago (September 7) that focus on food, music, and ideas. At each festival, organizations like the California Avocado Commission and Tabasco Brand Products will host six interactive "experiences" about sustainable food. Stop by Artisans’ and Brewers’ Halls for locally made samples and products, and try the Cultivate Farmhouse Ale, a Saison-style beer made exclusively for the fest by a local brewer in each city.
Chipotle will also present a menu of sustainable treats like grilled flatbread gorditas and charred esquites salad that they’ll start offering this year.
Chefs like Richard Blais from Top Chef, Big Gay Ice Cream Truck’s Bryan Petroff and Doug Quint, and Chopped‘s Amanda Freitag will host demos throughout the Cultivate Festivals. And participating bands include Mayer Hawthorne and The Walkmen in San Francisco, Cold War Kids in Denver, and Walk the Moon in Chicago, with more to be announced. What does this all means for you?
