As unfair as it seems, the way you look can influence how you’re treated—and where you’re seated in a restaurant. In major cities jeans or khakis and a button-down shirt will suffice at most inexpensive to mid-priced table-service restaurants. Moving up from there, many pricier restaurants require jackets, and some insist on ties. Elsewhere, in tropical destinations, casual dress is permitted at all but the most formal restaurants. When packing, it’s generally a good idea to bring at least one "dress-up" outfit.
