Avoid public displays of affection in Muslim countries

It’s often considered improper for a male to kiss a female acquaintance on the cheek or even offer his hand to most women until she has offered hers first. But such modesty isn’t limited to Muslim countries: Cambodians find public affection so egregious that even newlyweds are forbidden to kiss at their wedding ceremony. Note that in some countries same-sex affection is common, but strictly social. The rights of gays and lesbians aren’t respected or even protected in many areas.
