Sept 1 Vacation - Hurricaine Dean Effects

We've been holding our breath re: Hurricaine Dean and the Caymans. Our vacation is scheduled Sept. 1-10. Is it safe to go? What are the conditions down there? We're staying at the Westin on SMB. How's the beach? Is it rough, rocky, or eroded? Any damage, flooding, etc. to the resorts, commercial areas, foliage? Is it sunny? What about the power? As you can tell, we're a little hesitant.

You could try posting your question at caymanactivityguide.com for an answer. It has active discussions about Dean.

I believe TomCayman has already chimed in on www.stormcarib.com (in the Cayman Islands reports). Based on what he wrote, most tourist destinations on Grand Cayman were unaffected, so your visit should not be impacted (unless another storm comes along...).

Cayman is fine...the storm passed by them with little or no damage. The water and power was restored the next day and people are back at work.
In addition to the links given above, you can see what's happening in Cayman on the The Mad Bull's Blog (http://tinyurl.com/3br2fs)- written by a Jamaican living in Cayman with his family.

Keep a close eye on the weather, though. There's another system out in the Atlantic that we're hoping will just go away, but you never know...

TomCayman ... you definite ARE needed. It's in large part because of your other posts that I felt confident making this recommendation.

We're scheduled for Playa del Carmen on Sept. 1 and we are going. That area was hit a little harder than Grand Cayman, but everything is up and running.
