I think the Weeping Rock trail is only about 1/4 mile, but it is a little steeper than it looks. It's not at all difficult (the trail is paved), but it is uphill.

As Myer says, the Riverside Walk is easy, paved, and relatively level with a few gullies here and there.

The Riverside Walk is much superior, but you can easily do both in a couple of hours. We typically will ride the shuttle to the Temple of Sinewava for the Riverside Walk, then walk back toward Weeping Rock on the trail between the river and the road. Usually we have this trail to ourselves and walk to the shuttle stop between Riverside Walk and Weeping Rock (can't think of the name of it, but it is very easy to spot). Then ride the shuttle to Weeping Rock and hike there.

You can add another one or two or more walks in your day as well.

Oh my goodness, thanks so much, myer, dayle, and elnap! This might seem silly to ask, but how slick is the Weeping Rock trail? I'm not worried about waking up but how's it going down? Did any of you find it to be a problem (I'm physically capable, just don't want to fall!) they just keep mentioning it in the trail description.

After numerous visits, I don't recall it being slick. But we always wear hiking boots with excellent tread.

The trail to Weeping Rock is not slick unless it is icy. Very rough conrete and steps where it is really wet.
The next Shuttle stop elnap was thinking of is Big Bend which is the one between Weeping Rock and Temple of Sinawava. Great idea to walk back long the road. It is hard to real get the feel for the canyon from the shuttle.

I think by mid April the trail shouldn't be icy, hopefully. :). I read in a couple of places "slick and steep" but I'm not going to worry about it. I do have hiking boot and just need to be sure my husband brings the appropriate footwear along.

I agree with the Riverside Walk suggestion. Both offer beautiful views but Riverside is more diverse in terms of scenery and less strenuous. Because dh was sick the first time I walked this trail I went back a second time with him, during a different time of day, and it was a whole new experience. Really neat to see how the light changes the looks of things. And never once did I hear a partner yell at the other, "you told me this was going to be a short trail!" :-)

<b>IF</b> I had to pick between Riverside and Weeping Rock, I'd do Riverside walk. That said, you should be able to do both easily in one day. If you get an early start you could even do Lower Emerald Pools too.

The shuttle system in the park is about 90 minutes round trip from the Visitor Center to the end of the scenic drive at the Temple of Sinawava and back. The Riverside walk starts at the end of the scenic drive. Here is more information http://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisi...tle-system.htm

WE ARE GOING in june to Zion..basically 2 full days..2 nite stay. was wondering are The Narrows and AL FAR APART and are those two hikes you should do on sepearate days. Sorry to try and ask from here but this report and helping us plan our trip quite abit. Started a thread about our trip if anyobne cares to offer suggestions off it. Great report.

I would do separate days, just because they each require a certain amount of energy, and it is hard to predict how much time you will want to spend on each hike. The Narrows certainly can be a full-day hike, because the further in you go, the more wonderful it is. Also, in June it could be quite warm, and heat can also affect how long you spend on the hikes. There is a shuttle between the two trailheads and it does not take long to go between them.

Personally, I would do those hikes on different days and add in other, less strenuous hikes with each.

AnnMarie, thanks for this report. I found it helpful while getting ready for Zion, and even more so now that we are here! Sometimes (most times) you really have to be in a place for it to make sense.

Friendship bay, I know exactly what you mean about it all making sense once you get there! Zion is absolutely the best place on earth! It was the highlight of our recent trip (well, seeing Elton John was pretty darn cool too).

Thanks for all the help for our one day visit, everyone. We definitely need to work on making another trip (a longer one) to Zion and the surrounding area!
