Zion in February

Hi all,

Dayle, other locals and people that have visited Zion & Bryce in February, what can you tell me of your experiences at this time of the year? We're thinking of spending a week or so in the area....SOON!

Nevermind....GREETINGS FROM ZION NATIONAL PARK! We are here and it's BEAUTIFUL! There is a couple of inches of snow on the ground in Watchman campground and about 6 inches of snow at the start of the Riverside Walk. We didn't have enought time to get to far, but the trail is covered in snow! The sun was out today and temps weren't to bad during the day...but it's COLD tonight! There's one other motorhome here and get this...three tenters! Needless to say, we pretty much have this place to ourselves.

We plan on heading to Bryce while we are here...can't wait to see it in winter. We plan on being here for a while..any questions?

BTW, Verizon Broadband works in the campground!

Wow, I'm jealous. Don't know much about it, but you should check out snowshoes. I think they are available in Bryce. My wife and I tried them one time (not in Bryce), and thought they were really easy to walk in. You don't slip when going up an incline and they help with icy conditions also. I think it would be cool to experience Zion and Bryce in the winter.

Utahtea - that's really cool (pun intended).

If you are coming down to St George for anything, let me know. If we can mesh schedules, maybe I can get together with you and your husband for lunch.

spriobulldog,

We made it to Bryce...It's unbelievable in the winter! We read in the Winter Byrce Newspaper that they have a ranger lead snowshoe hike, but we were there on the wrong weekend :( We were told that we could easily walk from Sunset point to sunrise point (and back) in our snow boots, so we did it. It was a lot of fun. We really didn't have enought time to do much other hiking since we got a late start and wanted to get back before dark...black ice and all going though the Zion tunnel road.

I definitely want to come back in the winter!

dwooddon,

I wish I had checked the boards earlier. We head home tomorrow and will be driving thought St. George, but will have to make some miles. Maybe next time!

We really lucked into a week of beautiful weather in the area. It rained (actually poured!) last night and then turned into snow for a little while. Today we woke up to an inch or so of glisening snow and sunshine...what a beautiful last day it turned out to be.

Well all good things have to come to an end...and we head for home tomorrow. :(

I agree - winter in Bryce is my favorite time. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and have a safe drive home.

Hi utahtea,

Sorry I never saw this post until now! I've been to Zion in the winter, but not Bryce - yet.

I thought Zion was a whole different type of beauty without the green of the canyon floor. Stark, black tree branches make great frames for the cliffs in the dawn light!

Glad you had a good trip!
