Zion Imax, River Tubing
Is the Imax theater outside Zion worthwhile? Also has anyone been tubing on the Virgin River outside the park?

If you have a lot of times on your hands or if the weather is really bad then the IMAX is worth it. If you have just a short time I would do as much in the park as possible. Nothing beats the real thing!
We have gone a little ways out of the park and tubing is a lot of fun on a hot day. You get some really great views of the park (even when you are out of the park) as you go floating along. Utahtea |
Tubing sounds interesting - do you have any more info - locations, etc. Also, since I assume you tube one way, how do you get back to where you started from - oor is it a restricted short distance and you just walk back. (Excuse my ignorance - no place to do much tubing where I live so it is a new concept)

There may be an outfit in Springdale that will rent you the tubes, then pick you up in a van downstream. It isn't the business it used to be, though. When we were last there in 2001, we brought our own tubes and did a car shuttle, taking out at our hotel, the Desert Pearl. You can't go all that far anymore (used to be able to start in the campground and float into town), but the river flows at an easy pace so you can have a good cool half hour's float. Check with someone local about put in and put out places so you don't trespass in someone's backyard.

Here is a link to one place I found.
http://www.ziontubing.com/ When they use to allow it in the park, we use to hike up the river past just past the South Campground and then float down to just past the Watchman Campground and then walk back. We would do a couple of these trips in one day and it took a couple of hours. I haven't been since they changed all the rules, but when my DS and DIL did it they had rides to the drop off and a pick up included in the rental. It's a lot of fun on a HOT day! Make sure you take river shoes. You need shoes will stay on your feet. Flip flops won't do! Utahtea |
