Your preference of these San Diego Hotels

Double Tree San Diego
La Jolla Shores Hotel
Best Western Blue Sea
Best Western Island Palms Hotel & Marina
Background: Going early March,Family of 4 (twins almost 4yo) and Gma coming too. Want nice and easy, close to beach but yet decent distance to attractions. Just want your preference on these hotels. Thanks so much

Have stayed at Best Western Island Palms 3 years ago with husband and 2 teens. We had a 1 bedroom suite with balcony, full kitchen. Bedroom had 2 queen beds, LR had full sleeper sofa, chairs table. Deck/balcony overlooking marina and channel to airport also had table and chairs.

Plus - a lot of space; full kitchen really was full kitchen; pool area beautiful; quiet yet interesting location - watched boats in marina and naval ships in channel; although could see airport, never heard a plane; staff pleasant and helpful; nice walking path along water.

Cons - not really near anything but an easy drive (10-15 minutes) to attraactions; other than hotel restaurant, no other restaurant within easy walking distance (about 1/2 mile).

We would stay there again. Chose it because with 2 teenagers we wanted space and privacy - the kitchen was a great plus. Cost was far less than beachfront hotel - and primary purpose of our trip was to see things not just go to the beach so that was fine.

All hotels listed are decent hotels in SD but I think for the location, I would chose LJ Shores Hotel..oceanfront hotel, average rooms but great location and with twins, 4yo they would have a blast at the beach..
They have a great restaurant on site and in the quaint village of the Shores is some great places to eat like the Cheese Shop, Jeff's Burgers (dive) Piatti's and Barbarella.
Ask for any internet specials or try Expedia..
Best to you Rese!

We also stayed at the Island Palms about 2 years ago.
Ditto everything gail said.
It was a nice place and we'd stay there again.

I agree with TT re La Jolla Shores Hotel. Even if the weather is not warm enough to sit on the beach, the kids will have fun running around. I hope you get the same weather we have today!

I also agree with the LJ Shores Hotel - we stayed there when it was the Sea Lodge and loved being right on the beach and thought it was convenient for all of our San Diego sightseeing.

Hello....I'm looking to book at a moderate-priced hotel in the La Jolla village for a couple of days in January. The Empress @ $169 per or the La Jolla Shores @ $179? Thanks.

TahitiTams Sep 20th, 2007 07:26 AM

Tom,
Empress in the Village has a great location but ask if has been renovated lately..
LJ Shores Hotel is oceanfront and you can't beat the location.
Did you try the Grande Colonial Hotel?
Love the hotel and usually runs around $200 a night or less.

TahitiTams...Thanks for the info. I have looked at the Grande Colonial but the lowest I've found has been $225 per.
