I know this is a U.S. forum, but apparently foreign experience qualifies for this thread, so here goes:
The most memorable (actually awesome) hotel room we've stayed at (and we 've stayed at a LOT of hotels) was at the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai. The lobby of the hotel is on the 53rd floor of the 3rd tallest building in the world (don't know if that's changed since the World Trade Towers went down), and the hotel extends to the 88th floor. All rooms (and the lobby, and the restaurants) have a magnificent view (ours was on the 71st floor, overlooking the Bundt). Everything is glass and stainless steel (even the sink was transparent glass), and the bathroom has a window wall so that you can soak in the view while you soak in the tub. I'd do it again in a minute.

In the standard room category I don't think any hotel can beat the Four Seasons Big Island. Big room, beautiful slate floors, granite counters and a heavenly bed.

The San Pietro in Positano, The Europa in Venice, Palais Jamais in Fez, Morroco, and the Burgoyne Hotel in Reeth near Richmond in the Yorkshire Dales. In the U.S. we always love the Ritz Carlton Huntington in Pasadena or the old Hotel Del in SD.

This question is easier than the three vacation memories, I guess there are a lot more vacation memories than fantastic accomodations. My three:
1) Chateau Jasper, Jasper, AL, CA--for some reason we were upgraded to the Royal Suite--which had a huge marble bath with whirlpool, separate living area with big screen TV and comfortable king bed
2) Ocean Pointe Resort, Victoria, BC, CA - a suite with living area, down comforter, cathedral ceilings and a view that overlooked the harbor and parliament. Spectacular at night!
3) This month--Rusty Parrot Lodge, Jackson, WY. The room wasn't overly huge, but there was a very large bath with terra cotta tile, king bed with down comforter covered with pillows and a teddy bear--and the rest of the lodge, particularly the service and homemade breakfasts, out of this world, which made the whole stay phenomenal!

We were moving from California to Massachusetts. 1979 Buick Regal towing a trailer that weighed more than the car.

We got to Driggs, Idaho, filled the tank, asked the attendant if we could mae it over Teton pass...he said "no sweat".

Well, 1/2 mi. from the top, pedal to the metal, going 15 mph and slowing down, we hooked a u-turn. And anyone who has been on that road understands what that means.

Anyway, stayed in Driggs, Idaho that night, next day, drove south around the Teton range and North into Grand Teton National Forest.

Got to Jackson Lake Lodge, walked up to the desk and said: "Lady, we don't have a reservation, but need a place to sleep." She said that there was no room at the inn. I said we'd really appreciate any place they had. She said to wait a minute and talked to her supervisor. She came back and said: "Well, we've got this one room, it has a fold-out couch, and only a shower, but we could let you have it for the night...would you like to see it?

I said, "Sure!".

We walked up the stairs in the lobby, viewing the 30 ft high window with the Grand Tetons centered in the view, took a right, then a left, down the hall by the conference rooms. We arrived at a door...she pulled out a key and opened it.

There I saw a room, maybe 12 X 16, a foldout couch, sink and shower, 15 foot cieling and a glass wall with the Grand Tetons centered in the view.

She said: "I can let you have this for $30 per night." I said: "I think that will be ok."

We stayed a week!

On remember our honeymoon we stayed at some truckstop type room in Vegas the first night, but the next two nights our room in Mandalay Bay and our last 3 nights were toppped off with a room at the Venetian. The memories still linger about the room at the Venetian as we had the drapes open and while we were making love the volcano was exploding every, what was it 20 min?, at the Mirage across the street. Oh yeah the room with its decor and elevated floor with the great looking bed and marble bath was neat. I still picture that room and what happened just about every day. We were married 3 years ago.
