Your Favorite Theater District Hotels - Under $500/Night..
 

Hi! I'm helping a colleague organize a group of about 10 people do a Broadway weekend in May.

Whta are some of your favorite Theater District hotel gems that I can score for under $500/night?

When is this trip? They'll certainly be up by then, but if it's not Memorial Day weekend, I think you might get rooms for under $300 or at least under $400 per night, though people are reporting much higher rates for April through June (as opposed to right now, when rates are at their lowest). The Holiday Inn Express in Midtown is good and within walking distance of most of the theaters. There's nothing at all wrong with the Super 8 on 8th Avenue. And don't necessarily neglect hotels that are on the east side or near Herald Square. There are alot of hotels on Lexington and even 3rd Avenue that are at most a 15-minute walk from most Broadway theaters; Herald Square is about the same. I don't think that's too far; you can easily hop on the subway.

Most of the time most of the hotels in TS area should be under $500/night, but price depends on when you go. May is expensive, but if they go for Memorial weekend they may find some great rates.

Millenium Broadway is usually under $300 and often has specials on travelzoo.com for $199/night.

Michelangelo is one of the nicest non glitzy hotels just north of the TS area and is usually ~$495 or less on quikbook.com

Did a check on kayak.com for the first weekend of May. In addtion to the places already mentioned, the Sofitel, which is very well regarded, is available on hotels.com (and probably elsewhere) for under $500/night and is perhaps one of the nicest options. The W Times Square is another good possibility.

I like the Algonquin, because I pretend I'm Dorothy Parker. Occasionally they will be quite affordable, and if you are a writer they will give you special rates. The rooms are small, and old but you can feel like a struggling playwrite in a tiny apartment with a friendly doorman.

I've stayed at the Muse, too, when it first opened, and rode in the elevator with Bono and his wife. It's right next door to BMG music (or it was when it opened) so lots of celebrity sightings. The rooms were huge for New York, but we had just fled the Paramount where we could not even walk around any side of the bed unless we moved sideways.

When you find a hotel/rate you like call the hotel directly and ask if they offer any type of discount (or special offers or amenities etc) for booking a small block of rooms. Some do, some don't, but it's worth it to ask!

I stayed at the Muse last year (in March) and really loved the hotel and it's location. It's in the theatre district, but on a quiet street.....and so close to everything else (Rockfeller Ctr, 5th Ave, etc.) I think I paid about 350 a night for a junior suite. I'd definitely stay there again! I think it's www.themusehotel.com (or something close to it). have fun!

Renaissance Times Square. Great location, VERY comfortable beds, and quiet--we did not hear any street noise!

The next trip, I'm doing the Muse (because I love the Monaco in SF so much)

I recently booked a hotel in times square for May 30,31 and June 1st. Called Marriott Marquis direct and got a price of $290 a night if I paid then-and I did. The location could not be better!Views can't be beat either! Saves a lot of walking time to enjoy the area. I am going with my 16 year old daughter and wanted to be right in the action for her to love(she has never been!)Toys -r-us across the way to enjoy and lots of theaters to check out. We are going to see rent(which was SUPPOSED to be ending then!) and then play for rest of the time.I always call the hotel direct,explain your story and keep asking for a better deal.Good luck
