Your Favorite Budget Eats (Maui)
 

My FI has told me that we cannot "go willie-nillie" on spending money going out to eat. So, I am looking for some good (low-cost/middle of the road) places to eat. Would love to hear your ideas.

Mulligan's. - It's an Irish pub/restaurant at the golf course across from the Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea (where are you staying?) They have a nice view of the sunset and tables outside. The fish and chips was excellent, and all their dinners were reasonably priced.

It was a nice way for us to save *some* money (couldn't eat at the $200 places all 15 nights).

Ahoha Mixed Plate and De Kine Kitchen...oh and I love Maui Tacos.

Try the deli's at the larger grocery stores. They usually have prepared food and you can create your own dinner or lunch. That, a couple of Mai Tais and a sunset on the beach works best for me.
We went with another couple the last time we were in Maui and all they wanted to do was eat in fancy restaurants. I ended up feeling guilty for spending the extra money I could have used on other stuff.

Tasty Crust in Wailuku, about as local as it gets, very reasonable diner fare.

Also for a icy treat, Tasaka's Guri Guri shop in Kahului, serving a creamy type of strawberry and pineapple sherbert since at least the 1930's.

This has been discussed in depth here before, and if you do a search for Maui grinds you will find some other recent posts. Where are you staying? What kind of food do you like? We have many affordable places to eat, many that I think are better than some of the overpriced beachfront restaurants with large marketig budgets.

We are staying in Lahaina, but will be spending lots of time in other places on the island. We like all kinds of food!

I tried to top a post called "Taste grub in Maui" but it won't let me. Search for it.

We ate at one of the restaurants at the Grand Wailea Resort one evening. It is called Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. (their state fish) It wasn't low cost or middle of the road, but we had our 2 kids with us, and it was considered our splurge. It really wasn't that expensive either. The food and the view were absolutely incredible. You look out onto the Pacific and can see an unbelievable sunset. Walking around the hotel was great fun. Tommy Bahamas in the Shops at Wailea is a moderate price place as is the SeaWatch at the Gold Course in Wailea...

Nothing is better than the Ahi Tuna/Soy Sauce Poke from the Safeway Supermarket fish counter. I could eat that all day.
